From
Spencer Fulweiler
last
June: “We live right at the base
of a 3,800-foot mountain with a
great road, and my wife, Rena,
and I bike quite a bit there and
enter the race up it every year.
Last year Rena was second in
the women’s 50-plus division.
Our kids are now 13 (Emma)
and 11 (Spencer B.). Emma is in
a fantastic choral program in
San Francisco, which runs
through 10th grade. She has had
many opportunities to sing on
stage with S.F. Opera and Sym-
phony. In May she sang backup
onstage with Paul Simon! She is
open to boarding school (and
particularly SPS because we are
active in the church), but she
will have to make a decision on
that at a later date.”

Hurricane Isaac, I can get back
to teaching a course inmindful-
ness at Tulane University. I have
two new picture books coming
out in the next year, and I’m
currently writing a young adult
WWII book based on wartime
letters of my husband’s German
uncle, who was conscripted into
the German 58th Infantry Divi-
sion and sent to the Russian
Front four times. Hans still runs
the human genetics clinic at
Tulane Medical School, and
Christoph is about to release a
new solo album.”
