Geoff to find out what has trans-
pired. As for the Van Amburg
family, the arrival of Malcolm
Henning Van Amburg on April
16 was the big event of the past
several months. He is shaping up
to be a smiley, sweet-natured
young gentleman. And with
some time off in August for the
whole family, Eliza James dis-
covered the joys of summer. As
always, please drop me a line or
give me a call, as I always love to
hear from you.”

“With the hazy
summer days behind us now, it
appears that many of our form-
mates are getting back into the
swing of things with travels,
work, and catching up with
formmates. For me, in addition
to working on ThePurplePass-
port.com with
Jenn (Connelly)
Garcia-Alonso
, I have been
enjoying spending time with
Catherine Ruedig Hunter ’97
and
Caroline Bruce Finholt ’97
and their babes down here in the
Durham/Chapel Hill area, and
hope to meet N.C.-newcomer
Ken Kim
’s twin girls soon. I had
a wonderful time at the Alumni
Association meeting back in
April, where I caught up with
Ayesha Brantley-Gosine
and
Ben Loehnen
. And I look for-
ward to celebrating
Patti Lin
’s
nuptials with
Alana Pietra-
gallo Bedoya
,
Caitlin Riley
,
Katie Zug Volkmar
,
Jill
Thompson Smith
,
Christine
Parker
,
Paul Delaney
,
Ryan
McCormack
,
Chris Cheang ’97
,
Billy Pietragallo ’93
, and, of
course,
Jon Lin ’94
. I hope ev-
eryone’s having a lovely fall, and
be sure to get on our Facebook
form page (St. Paul’s-Form of
1996) to stay in touch!”
Caitlin Riley
writes: “Just
moved to Austin after living in
NYC for 10 years. I’m producing
character-driven short docu-
mentaries for Whole Foods’
online magazine,
Dark Rye
(darkrye.com). I’ll be profiling
urban farmers, tree house
builders, eco-conscious furni-
ture designers, vegan NFL play-
ers, dudes who turn their snow
shovels into guitars, that sorta
thing. If you’re in Austin, please
reach out (caitlin.riley@whole-
foods.com), and if you know of
anyone whose story would
make for a compelling short
film, please let me know!”
Carey Wagner
says, “After
leaving my staff job in South
Florida last year, I’ve landed in
NYC as a freelance photojour-
nalist (
).
Next month I have a project
coming out on gender-based
violence in Papua New Guinea,
where I was in the spring as a
fellow with the International
Reporting Project. I have no
babies or husbands to report,
but I do love catching up with
my St. Paul’s family in the city.”
Amanda Filoso Schreyer
wins a gold star for making the
Paulie rounds: “I got to visit with
a few formmates this summer.
In June, my two-year-old
daughter, Arden, and I spent a
lovely day in Philadelphia with
the amazing
Jessica Martin
Hayne
and her three darling
children. In July, I was fortunate
to have the opportunity to meet
brand-new baby Mordecai
Cohen, while visiting his par-
ents,
Caitlin Durham
and
Matt Cohen
, in L.A. while there
on business. Unfortunately, I
missed
FranReathMerrill
that
day because she was at the
hospital giving birth to baby
Rex. In August,
Alex Tilney
and
I hit the town in NYC while I was
there for a conference. And in
early September, I had lunch
with the glowing
Nicole Hanley
Mellon
during N.Y. Fashion
Week.”
Stephanie Oliver
writes:
“Hello, fellow Paulies. I am cur-
rently enjoying my summer off
from pursuing a degree in ac-
counting. I am working for the
IRS and loving it. Any Paulies in
the Philly/N.J./Del./N.Y. area,
please look me up.”
Kenneth Kim
with exciting
news: “Wife Beth recently gave
birth to our twins (a boy, Elijah,
and a girl, Evelyn) who are all
healthy and doing well. Com-
pleted my fellowship training in
women’s cancer and joined as
attending faculty in the division
of gynecology oncology at the
University of North Carolina.
Received a national leadership
award from the Society of Gy-
necologic Oncology (SGO).
Looking forward to our new life
in the Triangle (and to seeing
other Paulies in the area, like
Emily Chang Brands
and
Catherine Ruedig Hunter ’97
,
among others!), but very sad to
be leaving our dear friends
Alex
Leigh
and her husband, Nate
Brown (whose operating room
was next to mine at the Univer-
sity of Alabama), and their
growing family.”
